Clinton/Ford '08?

Tue Aug 21, 2007 at 08:19:34 PM PDT

I've been saying all over this website that I will support the Democratic nominee, no matter what.  I've done the ugly math, and decided that even if it is Hillary Clinton, I could pull the lever (we still get levers to pull in Michigan, instead of screens to touch).

But then, someone told me of "Clinton/Ford".  And it was decently sourced.

Let me be clear:  I will NOT vote for that ticket.  Presidency be damned.  Democratic Party be damned.  DailyKos be damned.  I will not vote for that ticket.

Hillary Clinton is the least of the candidates running, from a progressive perspective.  But, it is true, she's better than any Republican.  If, however, she puts Harold Ford one heartbeat away from the Big Show -- I'm out.

To Hillary, I'm sure Harold Ford at VP makes a certain degree of cynical sense.  The African-American community (a crucial demographic in Democratic politics) is invirgorated with the Obama candidacy.  But Hillary has said he's unqualified for the presidency.  She can't very well select Barack Obama as VP after she's said he doesn't have what it takes to be President.

Harold Ford, fellow DLCer, dovetails with her ideology, hails from a southern state, and is an African American.  A political marriage made in Hell.

I would, very hesitantly, and at the margins, vote for Hillary Clinton.  But I will not vote for a Clinton/Ford ticket.  I'll: (i) stay at home: (ii) undervote; (iii) vote third party; or (iv) if by some miracle Giuliani is the GOP candidate, I'll (gasp) vote Republican.

A Clinton/Ford ticket is too much to stomach. It's a rotten, creaking bridge too far.  I won't do it.  Ban me.  Tell me I'm a bad Democrat.  Whatever. I. Will. Not. Do. It.
